Don't forget that the Kickstarter for the PDX Broadsides' next album, Trust Issues, is still going strong! Here's a peek at one of the songs for the album, "I'll Eat You Last". It's a love song. With cannibalism. And mushy stuff. But not cannibalizing the mushy stuff. I think.
Three episodes in, and I'm pleased with how the new season of Doctor Who is playing out. I like the chemistry that's forming between Twelve and Bill, and though the second and third episodes have familiar stories, there are enough twists to keep things interesting. I think I'm going to really miss Peter Capaldi, just as much as I missed Tennant or Smith; whoever's cast as Thirteen will have a tough act to follow.
I haven't talked much about comics, printed or on the web, here lately, but I wanted to put in a good word for a new graphic novel, Newsprints. This steampunk adventure is the print debut for Ru Xu, though she's also known for the webcomic Saint For Rent. Newsprints is about Blue. a young newspaper seller who becomes involved in a mystery/conspiracy when she befriends a mysterious boy named Crow. Some of the plot elements may be familiar, but Xu uses them in new ways, resulting in a tale that touches on themes such as gender identification, the nature of intelligence, and the media's role during war while staying entertaining. And the art is wonderful, both in style and storytelling skills. Recommended, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
And finally: I'll have to wait for a week after its release to see Guardians Of The Galaxy vol. 2. The end of this clip shows what I'll need to do to escape all the incoming spoilers...
